Explore the OTEEC Partnership Model through short, easy-to-digest video segments. Learn what OTEEC is, why it matters, and how to begin implementing this innovative approach.

Module #1: What is Embedded Occupational Therapy?

This module introduces the foundations of Embedded Occupational Therapy (EOT), highlighting how Occupational Therapists (OTs) work within early childhood education centers to support children, families, teachers, and administrators. It explains how OTs align with each school’s philosophy, adapt to its culture and demographics, and develop a distinct, collaborative role that evolves through partnership with teachers. Viewers will see how EOT provides authentic, integrated support by being present in classrooms and shaping practices alongside educators.

Module #2: How does Embedded Occupational Therapy work?

This module explains how Embedded OT functions within early childhood centers using a workload model that serves the whole school community, not just children with diagnosed needs. Viewers will learn how OTs embed their work through classroom and schoolwide supports, collaborative partnerships with teachers, and proactive monitoring to address challenges early. The session highlights how EOT blends prevention with responsiveness to create inclusive, developmentally rich learning environments for all children.

Module #3: Why is OTEEC needed?

This module highlights why the OTEEC model is needed by addressing gaps in early identification and limitations in existing EI and preschool OT services. Viewers will learn how many children with subtle developmental challenges go unserved during the critical first five years, missing opportunities for early support. The session explains how embedding OTs in early childhood centers provides immediate, preventative, and equitable support for all children, strengthening long-term learning outcomes.

Module #4: How is Embedded Occupational Therapy different from Early Intervention and Preschool-Based OT?

This module explains how EOT differs from EI and preschool-based OT (SBOT). Unlike EI and SBOT, which require diagnoses or significant delays, EOT provides immediate, preventative, and inclusive support for all children within early childhood centers. The session highlights how EOT’s daily presence allows OTs to influence classroom practices, strengthen equity, and address subtle challenges before they escalate.

Module #5: Why should Embedded Occupational Therapy be embedded in Early Childhood Education Centers?

This module outlines why EOT is essential in early childhood education centers today. It highlights how EOT supports at-risk children often missed by traditional EI, promotes health and wellness through daily classroom routines, and addresses growing behavioral and social-emotional needs. By reducing barriers to access and creating equitable practices across diverse ECECs, EOT helps ensure all children enter school with the skills and confidence to thrive.

Module #6: Getting started with an Embedded Occupational Therapy practice model

This module walks through seven practical steps for launching an EOT partnership using the OTEEC model. Drawing from real-life experience at CSU’s Early Childhood Center, it covers how to choose the right ECEC partner, build relationships with teachers, families, and children, design a responsive schedule, and create systems of accountability. It also highlights strategies for aligning with school philosophy, supporting whole classrooms, and securing sustainable funding to ensure long-term success.

Module #7: A Day in the Life…

This module offers a look into the daily work of an EOT at CSU’s Early Childhood Center. It highlights how EOTs balance classroom encounters, individual evaluations, and schoolwide programming across infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-K, always tailoring support to developmental needs and school philosophy. Viewers also learn how EOTs collaborate with teachers and families, design inclusive activities, and build community-wide engagement through initiatives like 'OT Day.'

Module #8: Lessons Learned

This module shares lessons learned from a decade of Embedded OT practice, showing how every child benefits from OT presence—whether through small daily supports or larger schoolwide initiatives. It emphasizes the importance of keeping testimonials, supporting the whole school environment, easing classroom transitions, and being visible in the school community. Viewers also learn how EOTs advocate for play-based, developmentally appropriate practices that enrich learning for all children.
